South Dakota Mines has recently rebranded.
The graphic components of our signature logo system are: the M logomark, the university wordmark, the university tagline and the South Dakota Mines color palette. The university M logo and the university wordmark must appear in the South Dakota Mines color palette only. They should not be altered in any way.
Together, the M logomark, university wordmark and tagline are known as the university signature logo system. This system has three variations:
- Horizontal: the university wordmark and tagline, with the logomark to the left.
- Stacked Centered: the university wordmark and logomark, centered (with or without the tagline)
- Stacked Left Aligned: the university wordmark, stacked and left-aligned, with the M logomark above.
Downloads are provided for our primary logos below. For print media (CMYK), use a PDF file type. PDFs may be opened in Adobe Illustrator for vector files. For online media (RGB), use PNG or SVG files.
Primary Logos
Primary Horizontal Logo (With Tagline)
The primary horizontal logo with tagline should be the default choice. If space allows for the tagline version of the logo, please use it. At smaller sizes, the tagline may become unreadable. In this instance, using one of the other versions of the logo is preferred.
Primary Stacked Logo (With Tagline)
A centered, stacked logo is suitable when the layout requires a centered alignment. As long as space allows, please use the tagline version.
Primary Stacked Logo (Without Tagline)
For small spaces, a tagline-free version of our logo may be used. Please refer to our Logo Guidelines for minimum size requirements.

Wordmark
Under special circumstances, the wordmark can be used as a graphical element. However, it should never stand alone as the only logo. The wordmark “South Dakota Mines” must be used in conjunction with the logomark M in the composition.
